One pill or placebo? major trial questions routine antibiotics for arthritis Patients' dental work

NCT ID NCT07275580

Summary

This study aims to find out if a single dose of an antibiotic is needed to prevent infection after a simple tooth extraction in people with autoimmune diseases (like rheumatoid arthritis or lupus) who take medications that weaken their immune system. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the antibiotic amoxicillin or a placebo (a dummy pill) before their procedure. The goal is to gather evidence to guide safer dental care and reduce unnecessary antibiotic use in this group.
