Scientists map antibiotic journey in Babies' guts

NCT ID NCT04299867

Summary

This study aimed to understand how a common antibiotic, metronidazole, moves into the intestinal wall of infants during surgery. Researchers measured drug levels in the blood and intestinal tissue of 21 healthy infants aged 0-2 years who were having elective bowel surgery. The goal was to gather information to help doctors better dose antibiotics for serious bowel infections in babies in the future.
