Brain drain antibiotic debate: short course may be enough

NCT ID NCT05001750

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 10, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looks at whether giving antibiotics for just 24 hours around the time of placing a special antibiotic-coated brain drain works as well as giving them for the whole time the drain is in place. The goal is to find the best way to prevent serious brain infections in people with bleeding in the brain. About 84 adults with conditions like subarachnoid hemorrhage or hydrocephalus who need this drain will take part.
