New study tests antibiotic beads vs discs to save breast implants

NCT ID NCT07339215

First seen Jan 19, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study looks at two ways to deliver antibiotics directly into the breast pocket after tissue expander breast reconstruction to prevent infections. About 100 women will be randomly assigned to receive either a non-absorbable disc or absorbable beads, both releasing antibiotics. Researchers will measure antibiotic levels in fluid around the expander and track infections and complications for 90 days after surgery.
