First seen Mar 12, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study looked at 154 older adults (60+) having surgery to see if the type of anesthesia affects brain function afterward. One group received intravenous anesthesia, the other inhaled gas. Researchers measured blood-brain barrier changes and checked for confusion or memory problems up to 7 days after surgery. The goal was to learn which anesthesia might be better for protecting the aging brain.
