New brain monitor test aims to stop surgery patients from waking up too early

NCT ID NCT07232160

Summary

This study tests whether adding a second type of brain wave display to an existing anesthesia monitor helps doctors better detect when patients aged 65+ are waking up from surgery. Researchers will observe 70 older patients during elective procedures to see if the combined display is more accurate at spotting the moment consciousness returns. The goal is to improve monitoring and reduce the rare but traumatic experience of being aware during an operation.
