Anemia types may predict surgery risks, new study hopes to find out

Summary
This study looks at 1000 adults having moderate- to high-risk surgery to see if the type of anemia they have before surgery affects their chance of complications like heart injury, kidney injury, or stroke. Researchers will compare people with iron-deficiency anemia, anemia from chronic disease, or both, to those without anemia. The goal is to better understand risks and improve care, but this study does not test any treatment.
