New scan technique may reveal hidden cause of brain bleeds
NCT ID NCT01619709
First seen Apr 10, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study looked at whether a special PET scan (AV-45) can help doctors tell apart two common causes of brain bleeding: amyloid buildup in blood vessels versus high blood pressure. About 70 adults who had a brain bleed within the past month received an injection and a brain scan. The goal was to see if the scan could identify which patients had amyloid-related bleeding, which may affect future treatment and prevention.
