Heart rhythm showdown: ablation or pills for AFib in stiff heart failure?

NCT ID NCT04282850

First seen Jan 26, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This small pilot study looked at two ways to manage atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) in people with a type of heart failure where the heart pumps normally but is stiff. The study compared a procedure called pulmonary vein isolation (ablation) to standard medication. The goal was to see which approach better reduces the amount of time spent in atrial fibrillation and improves exercise ability. Only 13 people took part before the study was stopped early.
