Heart surgery side effect: could a common drug be the simple fix?

NCT ID NCT05543278

Summary

This study aimed to see if giving a short course of the drug amiodarone right after heart surgery could safely prevent a common complication called postoperative atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat). It planned to test this in adults having certain types of heart surgery who did not already have irregular heart rhythms. The goal was to reduce the risk of this complication without causing significant new side effects from the medication.
