Heart surgery patients may get a patch that stops dangerous fluttering
NCT ID NCT06722196
First seen Dec 10, 2025 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This study tests if placing a biodegradable patch soaked with the heart drug amiodarone directly on the heart during surgery can prevent atrial fibrillation (a common irregular heartbeat) afterward. About 500 adults having elective open-heart surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either the drug patch or a plain patch. The goal is to see if the patch reduces the number of patients who develop this heart rhythm problem while in the hospital.
