New dental technique aims to save jawbone after tooth loss

NCT ID NCT07231874

First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tested whether placing a thin bone layer (cortical lamina) after tooth removal helps preserve the jawbone's shape. Forty adults with teeth needing extraction took part. Half received the bone layer, half did not. After six months, the researchers measured changes in bone width and height using 3D scans to see if the technique reduced bone loss.
