Focused ultrasound opens brain barrier in ALS: first step toward new treatments?

NCT ID NCT03321487

First seen Mar 25, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This early study tested whether a focused ultrasound technique could safely open the blood-brain barrier in the motor cortex of 4 people with ALS. The goal was to see if the procedure was safe and feasible, not to treat the disease. Results will help guide future research into delivering therapies to the brain.
