Kids' fake penicillin allergies exposed in ER study
NCT ID NCT06823154
First seen Dec 26, 2025 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study tests a program to safely remove incorrect penicillin allergy labels from children in the emergency department. Many kids are wrongly labeled as allergic to common antibiotics, often due to rashes that are not true allergies. The program uses an oral challenge—giving the child a small dose of the antibiotic under medical supervision—to confirm they can tolerate it. The goal is to help more children get the best antibiotics when needed.
