New study aims to make airway surgery safer by tracking oxygen levels

NCT ID NCT05881863

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study looks at oxygen levels in the airway during a procedure called rigid bronchoscopy, which uses a breathing machine (jet ventilator) to help patients breathe. Doctors want to know how fast oxygen drops when they switch to a special 'laser mode' that lowers fire risk during heat-based treatments. About 50 adults with blocked airways will take part. The goal is to find safer ways to use lasers without causing airway fires.
