Hidden lung danger: study probes airway closures in ventilator patients

NCT ID NCT07512713

First seen Apr 11, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study aims to find out how often the airways close in critically ill adults who are on breathing machines (ventilators) in intensive care. About 500 patients from 39 ICUs will have a simple, non-invasive measurement to check for airway closure. The goal is to better understand this condition so doctors can adjust ventilator settings to prevent lung damage.
