AI assistant helps GPs spot skin cancer and reduce unnecessary specialist visits

NCT ID NCT07429123

First seen Feb 27, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study looked at whether an artificial intelligence (AI) tool can help primary care doctors more accurately diagnose skin conditions and decide which patients need to see a skin specialist. 131 adults with various skin issues, including possible skin cancer, took part. Doctors took photos of the skin and used the AI tool as a second opinion. The main goal was to see if the tool could reduce unnecessary referrals to dermatologists and improve diagnosis of serious conditions like melanoma.
