AI could save babies from unnecessary surgery and tests

NCT ID NCT07581223

First seen May 20, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests an AI tool that helps doctors decide whether babies with hydronephrosis (kidney swelling) need surgery or can be safely monitored. About 322 infants up to 24 months old will take part. Doctors first make a decision without AI, then see the AI's recommendation and may change their plan. The goal is to see if AI reduces unnecessary invasive tests and improves care.
