New AI could make colonoscopy prep checks more reliable

NCT ID NCT07150130

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 21, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study aims to develop an artificial intelligence system that can more accurately assess how clean the bowel is during a colonoscopy. Current AI methods assume the scope moves at a constant speed, which isn't realistic. By using a positioning system that tracks the scope's actual movement, the researchers hope to create a more reliable tool. The study will analyze 700 colonoscopy videos to train and test the AI.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a more accurate and practical AI tool for assessing bowel cleanliness during colonoscopy, improving detection of colorectal adenomas.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage development study using existing videos, not a treatment trial. The AI may not perform better than current methods or may not generalize to all clinical settings.
