New hope for high-risk thyroid cancer: radiation after surgery may stop recurrence

NCT ID NCT06558981

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looks at whether adding radiation therapy to the usual radioactive iodine treatment can keep thyroid cancer from returning in people with high-risk, advanced disease. About 124 patients who had surgery but still have some cancer left will be randomly assigned to get either radiation plus radioactive iodine or radioactive iodine alone. The goal is to see if the extra radiation improves how long patients stay cancer-free in the neck area.
