First seen Jan 29, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding toothbrushing, mouthwash, and oral gel to standard care can prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in ICU patients. 100 adults on breathing machines were randomly assigned to get either the extra oral care or standard mouthwash alone. The goal was to see if the extra care lowers pneumonia rates, reduces deaths, and shortens ICU stays.
