Smarter brain stimulation could give Parkinson's patients more good hours each day
NCT ID NCT06909045
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study compares two ways of delivering deep brain stimulation (DBS) to people with Parkinson's disease: adaptive DBS, which adjusts stimulation in real time based on brain signals, and continuous DBS, which delivers constant stimulation. About 130 adults who already have a DBS device will be randomly assigned to one of the two methods. The goal is to see if adaptive DBS increases the amount of time during the day when movement is good and without bothersome side effects, over a six-month period.
