Tooth troubles may weaken jaw muscles, new study shows

NCT ID NCT06734559

First seen Jan 03, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study looks at how an infection at the tip of a tooth root (acute apical periodontitis) affects the masseter muscle, a main chewing muscle. Researchers will use ultrasound to measure the muscle's thickness, length, and stiffness in 60 adults with the infection. The goal is to understand these changes, not to test a new treatment.
