Needles vs. pills: acupuncture study aims to help depression patients taper off medication

NCT ID NCT07390981

Summary

This study is testing whether a type of acupuncture can help adults with depression safely reduce or stop their antidepressant medication (SSRIs). Participants planning to taper their medication will be randomly assigned to receive real acupuncture, fake acupuncture, or no acupuncture alongside their dose reduction. Researchers will track medication levels, depression symptoms, and body signals to see if acupuncture makes the tapering process easier and more effective.
