Acupuncture may ease antidepressant withdrawal, new study suggests
NCT ID NCT07390981
First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study tests whether a special type of acupuncture (intradermal acupuncture) can help adults with major depression safely lower or stop their SSRI antidepressant medication. About 114 participants who are already planning to reduce their SSRI dose will be randomly assigned to receive either real acupuncture, sham acupuncture, or no acupuncture alongside their medication taper. The goal is to see if acupuncture reduces withdrawal symptoms and helps people successfully lower their dose.
