New study asks: is it okay to just watch some skin cancers in seniors?
NCT ID NCT06539468
First seen Apr 29, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study looks at whether active surveillance (watching and not treating) is a safe and comfortable option for adults aged 65 and older with low-risk basal cell carcinoma, a slow-growing skin cancer that rarely spreads. Instead of standard treatments like scraping, burning, or surgery—which can cause bleeding or infection—some patients will be monitored closely. The goal is to see if skipping treatment is just as good for quality of life and safety.
