Acne face wash may help prevent shoulder surgery infections

Summary

This study tests whether washing the shoulder with a 10% benzoyl peroxide acne cleanser the night before rotator cuff repair surgery can reduce harmful bacteria on the skin and surgical sutures. About 150 adults scheduled for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair will be randomly assigned to use either standard soap or the acne cleanser. The goal is to see if this simple step lowers contamination and helps prevent infections.
