First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This study looked at two different approaches for treating persistent atrial fibrillation (a long-lasting irregular heartbeat) using a procedure called catheter ablation. 480 adults were randomly assigned to either have the ablation aim to stop the irregular rhythm during the procedure, or follow a preset plan and then use an electric shock to restore normal rhythm. The goal was to see which method better prevented the irregular heartbeat from returning within a year.
