New MRI technique may spare lung patients from risky heart catheter
NCT ID NCT05103189
First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study tested whether a special MRI scan (4D flow MRI) can accurately measure blood pressure in the lungs without needing a heart catheter. 28 adults with pulmonary hypertension had both the MRI and the standard catheter test, plus an ultrasound. The goal was to see if the MRI could give the same pressure readings safely and without radiation. If successful, this could lead to a simpler, safer way to diagnose and monitor lung blood pressure.
