3D dental scans tested to find hidden infections linked to heart disease

Summary

This study aims to see if a more detailed 3D dental scan (CBCT) is better than the standard 2D dental X-ray (OPT) at finding hidden mouth infections in patients who have been hospitalized with a serious heart infection called infective endocarditis. Researchers will enroll 170 patients and randomly assign them to receive either the 3D or 2D scan to compare how many infections each method finds and the patients' overall oral health after one year. The goal is to improve detection and treatment of mouth infections that could lead to repeat heart infections.
