Could a nerve drug reverse botulism paralysis? small trial hints at hope

NCT ID NCT01441557

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tested a medicine called 3,4-diaminopyridine (FIRDAPSE) in people with severe botulism who needed a breathing machine. The goal was to see if the drug could improve muscle strength and breathing. Only 3 people took part, and researchers measured changes in nerve signals and breathing before and after the drug. The results help guide future research but are too small to draw firm conclusions.
