Could these eye drops replace cataract surgery?
NCT ID NCT07395986
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests an experimental eye drop called ZOC2017217 in 40 people with age-related cataracts. Participants will use the drops twice a day for 24 weeks to see if it improves vision and lens clarity compared to a placebo. The goal is to find a non-surgical option for cataracts.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ZOC2017217 eye drops
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a non-surgical treatment for age-related cataracts, potentially improving vision without the need for surgery.
What could go wrong
This is an early Phase 2 pilot study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The eye drops may not improve vision significantly, and there could be side effects like eye irritation.
