Can a new tooth filling make Kids' cavity repairs last longer?
NCT ID NCT06254053
First seen Aug 12, 2026 · Last updated Aug 13, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial asks whether a newer filling material called zirconomer holds up better than a standard glass ionomer cement when repairing cavities in children's baby molars. About 30 children aged 5 to 7 with a cavity in a back baby tooth will receive one of the two fillings. Researchers will then check the fillings over time for signs of new decay, color match, and how well they stay sealed against the tooth.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- zirconia reinforced glass ionomer (zirconomer) compared with glass ionomer cement
- What this could lead to
- If zirconomer works better, it could give children a more durable, better-looking filling for baby teeth, reducing the need for repeat treatments.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small early-stage trial, so results may not apply to all children. Fillings can still fail over time, and the new material might not outperform the standard one.
