Could a simple zinc pill strengthen bones in sickle cell disease?
NCT ID NCT06260891
Summary
This study is testing if zinc supplements can help improve bone health in people with sickle cell disease. It will compare two different daily doses (25 mg vs. 40 mg) in 34 young adults to see which one is better tolerated and has a more positive effect on bone health markers. The results will help plan a larger future trial to see if long-term zinc use can strengthen bones and reduce fracture risk.
