New program aims to forge safer futures for teens

Summary

This study is testing a community program called Forging Hopeful Futures that aims to prevent violence among teenagers. The program combines job readiness training with education about racial and gender justice to help teens build better coping and leadership skills. It involves 720 young people ages 13-19 in neighborhoods with high levels of violence in Pittsburgh and the Washington D.C. area. Researchers will measure if the program reduces physical fights, weapon threats, and other violent behaviors over several months.
