Simple drape may help newborns beat jaundice faster

NCT ID NCT07156721

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether placing a white reflective drape around phototherapy lights helps lower bilirubin levels faster in newborns with jaundice. 102 babies received either standard phototherapy or phototherapy with the drape. Researchers measured bilirubin at 4 and 24 hours and tracked how long babies needed treatment and stayed in the hospital.

white reflective drape

What this could lead to

If it works, this simple, low-cost addition could help newborns with jaundice recover faster and go home sooner.

What could go wrong

This is a small, single-center study with 102 babies. The drape may not make a meaningful difference in all settings, and results may not apply to sicker or premature infants.
