Weekly HIV pill trial halted over safety fears

NCT ID NCT04564547

Summary

This study tested if people with well-controlled HIV could switch from taking daily pills to a new weekly combination of two drugs, islatravir and ulonivirine. The goal was to see if the weekly treatment was safe and tolerable. However, the trial was stopped early because participants taking the weekly drugs showed concerning drops in important immune cells (lymphocytes and CD4+ T-cells).
