Smartwatch may boost CPAP use in sleep apnea patients
NCT ID NCT07377968
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a Garmin smartwatch that shows health data can help people with moderate to severe sleep apnea use their CPAP machine more regularly. 80 adults who are new to CPAP will be split into two groups: one can see their wearable data, the other cannot. The main goal is to see if the wearable group uses CPAP longer and more often.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Garmin vivoactive 5 wearable device
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that giving patients access to their own health data from a wearable helps them stick with CPAP therapy, leading to better sleep and health.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 80 people. The wearable might not actually improve CPAP use, and results may not apply to everyone with sleep apnea.
