Training teachers to boost activity in autistic kids: a new trial

NCT ID NCT07747129

First seen Aug 05, 2026 · Last updated Aug 06, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial tests whether an online training for preschool teachers, called WE PLAY, can increase physical activity among young children with autism. About 150 teacher-child pairs will be randomly assigned to either the WE PLAY training or a control training. The study measures children's activity levels using accelerometers and surveys teachers' attitudes and practices over 20 weeks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
WE PLAY, an online training program for early childhood educators to promote physical activity in autistic preschoolers
What this could lead to
If effective, this training could be widely adopted in preschools, helping autistic children become more active and gain long-term health and developmental benefits.
What could go wrong
The trial is still testing efficacy, and results may not apply to all settings. Success depends on teachers' consistent use of the training, and the study's short follow-up may not capture lasting effects.
