Sewage sleuths: nursing home wastewater may predict superbug outbreaks

NCT ID NCT07234331

First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study looks at wastewater from nursing homes to see if it can help predict how many residents carry antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Researchers will collect stool samples from about 1,600 elderly residents and compare that to bacteria levels found in the facility's wastewater. The goal is to create a model that can spot potential outbreaks early without needing to test every person.
