Stem cells may free some with type 1 diabetes from insulin shots

Summary

This study tests a treatment called VX-880 for people with type 1 diabetes who have severe low blood sugar episodes. The therapy uses special cells that can make insulin, aiming to reduce or eliminate the need for insulin injections. About 52 adults will receive the treatment and be monitored for safety and how well it controls blood sugar.
