Simple leg position change may reduce radiation burns in vulvar cancer

NCT ID NCT05014191

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether lying with legs straight or bent (frog-leg) during radiation therapy for vulvar cancer affects skin burns. Twenty women with early-stage vulvar cancer took part. The goal was to see which position causes fewer skin side effects and whether it shortens treatment time.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

radiation therapy (VMAT) with positioning change

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that a simple change in leg position during radiation reduces skin burns and treatment delays for vulvar cancer patients.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, single-center study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The benefit of positioning may be modest.
