Can wii fit help stroke survivors regain balance?
NCT ID NCT07656987
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two different doses of Wii Fit-based virtual reality balance training added to standard physical therapy for people who had a stroke at least six months ago. Participants are randomly assigned to receive either conventional rehab alone, or conventional rehab plus VR training three or five times per week for four weeks. The goal is to see if more frequent VR sessions lead to better improvements in balance, daily function, and quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Wii Fit-based virtual reality balance training
What this could lead to
If effective, this approach could offer a fun, accessible way to boost motor recovery after stroke without medication.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 43 participants, so results may not apply to all stroke survivors. The therapy is an add-on to standard rehab, not a standalone cure.
