Scientists test if VR can trick your brain into owning a fake hand

NCT ID NCT05836038

Summary

This study aimed to understand how people experience 'embodiment'—the feeling that a virtual hand is their own—in a virtual reality (VR) environment. Researchers planned to test healthy adults to see if adding synchronized touch to what they see (visio-tactile stimulation) makes the virtual hand feel more real and improves control over it. The study was withdrawn before any participants were enrolled.
