VR headsets aim to soothe surgery patients in ICU

NCT ID NCT06830369

Summary

This study is testing whether using immersive virtual reality (VR) can help reduce discomfort for patients recovering from major surgery in a surgical intensive care unit (ICU). Researchers will enroll 194 adults who have had major heart, chest, or abdominal surgery and are expected to stay in the ICU for at least two days. Half will use a VR headset twice daily during their ICU stay, while the other half receives standard care, to see if VR improves their overall comfort and reduces symptoms like anxiety, pain, and sleep problems.
