NCT ID NCT06806267

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether combining virtual reality therapy with a mild brain stimulation technique can help veterans and civilians in Ukraine cope with PTSD. Participants attend 10 therapy sessions using VR goggles to safely face traumatic memories, with some also receiving a gentle electrical current on the scalp. The goal is to reduce symptoms like anxiety, nightmares, and depression.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

virtual reality exposure therapy and transcranial direct current stimulation

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new, drug-free way to reduce PTSD symptoms like anxiety and nightmares for people affected by war.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage study with no phase, so results are uncertain. The combination may not work better than VR alone, and brain stimulation may cause mild discomfort.
