Gentler breathing support for tiny babies? pilot study explores new approach
NCT ID NCT05144724
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 35 times
Summary
This study tested whether a breathing technique called volume-targeted ventilation is practical for very premature infants (born between 23 and 28 weeks) who need help breathing right after birth. 52 babies were randomly assigned to receive either standard pressure-based breathing support or the new volume-targeted method. The main goal was to see if doctors could correctly use the new technique without switching back to the standard method. This was a small pilot study to gather information, not to prove the new method works better.
