New ablation technique may reduce burns to the esophagus during AF treatment

NCT ID NCT07354737

First seen Jan 31, 2026 · Last updated May 10, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study tested a new step-by-step ablation method guided by voltage readings against the standard approach for treating atrial fibrillation (AF). 130 adults with AF having their first ablation were randomly assigned to one of the two methods. The goal was to see if the new technique could prevent irregular heartbeats just as well while causing fewer injuries to the esophagus. Participants were monitored for a year with heart recordings and an early scope check for esophageal damage.
