Wrist fracture surgery showdown: which fix works best?

NCT ID NCT07576075

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two common surgeries for wrist fractures that involve the joint surface: a volar locking plate (a metal plate placed inside the wrist) and an external fixator (a frame outside the arm with pins into the bone). Researchers will measure how long the surgery takes, how much blood is lost, and how well the wrist works after healing. The trial aims to find which method leads to better outcomes for patients aged 20 to 60 with recent fractures.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

surgical procedure (volar locking plate or external fixator)

What this could lead to

If this trial shows one method is clearly better, it could guide surgeons to choose the best option for wrist fracture repair, improving recovery and reducing complications.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Individual outcomes vary, and neither method guarantees perfect wrist function.
