New vaginal surgery technique may reduce pain after hysterectomy

NCT ID NCT07306507

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compared two types of minimally invasive hysterectomy: vNOTES (done through the vagina) and conventional laparoscopic hysterectomy (done through small belly cuts). About 90 women having hysterectomy for non-cancer reasons took part. The goal was to see which method causes less pain, less need for strong painkillers, and better early recovery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

vNOTES hysterectomy (procedure) vs. total laparoscopic hysterectomy (procedure)

What this could lead to

If vNOTES proves better, it could become the preferred method for hysterectomy, leading to less pain and faster recovery for patients.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 90 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The benefit of vNOTES over standard laparoscopy may be small or not clinically significant.
