Vitamin d could cut deaths in half for critically ill patients

NCT ID NCT03188796

Summary

This large study is testing whether high-dose vitamin D can reduce deaths in critically ill patients who have severe vitamin D deficiency. The trial will enroll 2,400 adult ICU patients across multiple hospitals, randomly giving them either vitamin D or a placebo. Researchers want to confirm earlier findings that suggested vitamin D might significantly lower death rates in this vulnerable group.
